    Common sense and SEO

Ever since search engine optimization has come into being, it has been surrounded by a myth of it being the most complicated thing of earth. While not under mining the hard work people employed at search engine optimization companies do, common sense does prevail over here too!

A lot of people are of the idea that that every search engine has its own defined set formula of ranking websites on their search pages. So they basically opt to tackle every search engine in a different way and thus loading themselves with so much unwanted work of figuring out the formula for each search engine and then working on it. while this must be true that every search engine might be running a different set of a network which rates websites and decide what number they will be put on the search results, it is a mere fact that a lot of it is based on common sense. Every search engine while looking at a website will notice that the website has a clean and simple coded design. That it lists the right links to the desired information on it. That it has a well thought out and user friendly navigation. That the website is generally well written and descriptive and its titles and mega titles which help identify the relevant keyword phrases. So it is just common sense at the end of the day. Websites which have all such features don’t need to find out the set formulas of different search engines as they are likely to be in the top rankings of all search engines. And if someone still persists in cracking out the algorithms of different search engines, it would just be a never ending phenomenon. Search engines are likely to alter their formulas with the passage of time and you will need to constantly check if they have altered their algorithms and then work them out over and over again. Why not opt for common sense?

Many people opt for flash animations on their websites to make them look good and attractive and what not. It’s okay if you do that but then don’t expect to be in the good rankings of search engines! It is a fact and it is common sense that content matters the most! Search engines would just not find anything going through heaps of flash animation on your website and they would end up sidelining your beautiful and attractive website. While some search engines have started reading flash animations, still why go for them? If you want to sell a product, convince your potential customers with your relevant content. Flash animation might just make them think that the website is cool but it would just serve as a distraction with time.

People even opt for a different website for search engine optimization purposes. This should not be the case. You can make one website which should serve equally purposeful to the search engine as well as the visitors. Web is maturing day by day and so are the thinking patterns of people related to SEO. No matter what, one thing is for sure, common sense should always prevail!

Better search ranking with key SEO techniques

All websites or blogs want traffic for their sites. People think that it is very hard to make to the top of the top search engines like Yahoo!  , Google, MSN, etc. But, it is very easy if you follow some simple tips or instructions. The first thing would be that do not change your website, or do not buy a new domain until or unless it is very, very important; since changing or buying a new domain will cause the loss of traffic for the website. Second point, you are to optimize your site for the targeted audience for your website. Yes, the audience and not the search engines. This is because; people search things through search engines in the form of keywords. And if those keywords match with the content offered in your website, you will of course have more chances of being discovered. The third tip would be researching for the keywords extensively. For optimization, you will of course try to find the keywords the people or the internet users enter, and for that you have to be very careful and be accurate as much as you can. There are different keywords finding tools on the internet through which you can determine the keywords. Next thing is categorizing you website. For instance, your research may uncover undiscovered areas of interest or ways of categorizing your products/services that you may wish to add to your site. For instance, let’s say your site sells toys. There are numerous ways you could categorize and lay out your site so that people will find the toys they’re looking for. Are people looking for toys to fit their child’s stage of development? (Look for keyword phrases such as “preschool toys.”) Or are they more likely to be seeking specific brands of toys? Most likely, your keyword research will show you that people are looking for toys in many different ways. Your job is to make sure that your site’s navigation showcases the various ways of searching. Make sure you have links to specific-brand pages as well as specific age ranges, specific types of toys, etc. The fifth tip would be making your website search engine / crawler friendly. That can be done by adding HTML links to all the pages of your website, since it cannot be found by the search engine otherwise. Next, your site visitors and the search engines look at the clickable portion of your links (aka the anchor text) to help them understand what they’re going to find once they click through. Don’t make them guess what’s at the other end with links that say “click here” or other non-descriptive words. Be as descriptive as possible with every text and graphical link on your site. Next, Write convincing copy for the key pages of your site based on your chosen keyword phrases and your target market’s needs, and make sure it’s copy that the search engines can see and detect. Next, incorporate your keyword phrases into each page’s unique Title tag. Next, Make sure your site is link-worthy. Once you have applied to the instructions above, you will see an increase in your website traffic. Forget about where you rank for any specific keyword phrase and instead measure your results in increased traffic, sales, and conversions.

White hat versus Black hat SEO

Like most things SEO can be carried out in an ethical manner or an unethical manner.

SEO techniques can be grouped into two categories. There are techniques that search engines themselves recommend for a good design and there are those techniques that are met with disapproval and search engines are against. These two are known as White-hat SEO and Black-hat SEO, the latter being black hat. White-hat SEO is the ethical method approved by the search engines as if follows the rules lay down by the search engines. White-hat results last for long periods whereas Black-hat SEO methods the unethical ones tend to focus on short term results for people using Black-hat know that their site will be eventually banned. A famous example of a Black-hat technique is hidden text manipulation. In this text colored same as the background is used and stuffed with popular keywords in order to drive more traffic to the site.

So in short a White-hat SEO is a legal one whereas Black-hat SEO methods are illegal. But even so why not use Black-hat methods? In Black-hat short term gains are seen whereas in White-hat branding and creating an image are focused upon which are time consuming but tend to produce long lasting and better benefits. Companies using White-hat take time to research analyze and even re write your meta tags, content and may even redesign website and change page names.

In White-hat the target is a human audience thus quality is focused on. In Black-hat the target are search engines thus pages with links and other content are developed which are useless for people.

So as we now have discussed that Black-hat isn’t meant to view by people it’s for search engines only. Thus evaluating such work is difficult. On the other hand since White-hat aims at a human audience it can be reviewed evaluated and praised. Also using Black-hat methods will damage the reputation of the site. Also sites using Black-hat techniques will be penalized by search engines. Their rankings might be reduced or removed from their data bases completely. These penalties can be applied automatically or when a manual site review is done. Famous examples of action taken against such sites are Google’s removal of both BMV Germany and Ricoh Germany for their use of such underhand techniques. After an apology and fixing their sites in accordance with Google’s rules they were restored to Google’s list.

Black-hat methods aren’t suitable if you plan to own the website for a long time period. Black-hat might be useful if you plan to improve search engine ranking and then sell it fast but if you want to keep and nurture it and add to its value then White-hat SEO is the only way to go.

Also search engines have improved greatly and are continuously improving so getting results from Black-hat methods is getting difficult and will continue to do so shifting from White-hat will ensure that you don’t waste your time on things that might not work.

Tips to hit the search engine skies

Developing or managing a web page that can find its way to the summit of any search engine like Google or MSN or Yahoo is not all that difficult a task, but it can be tricky to know where to actually start. From link sponsoring to pay per clicks to all that other technical jargon, it is easy for a novice in the field to want to pull his hair out. But fear not! Provided here are some useful tips to give you a little heave-ho into the world of search engine optimization:

    1.    Go Second-Hand if you can!

Believe it or not, recycling even in cyberspace can be as beneficial, if not more, as in the real world. The fact of the matter is that search engines keep a log of all domains that have been in existence, and the longer one has been there, the more chances of it showing up earlier as part of a search query.  This means that one should, if they can, buy or rent domain names that are already present instead of getting new ones made. But in case you absolutely have to come up with a new domain, then you should be prepared for a certain loss of Internet traffic in the initial days to come.

    2.    The target audience is important, not the search engine.

Now this may sound a bit mutinous, but read through and allow me to prove otherwise. Those search engines we are all starting to worship seek out the sites that best fit the key phrase entered by the user. If that very user types in the phrase that pertains to your web page, then or she is your target audience. These are the people who should be kept in mind when developing and designing your web page.

    3.    Invest time in identifying the correct key phrases.

The phrases you have in mind that you think your target audience will use might very well be different from what they actually will enter into search engines. To find those that can work for you, the ideal way to go about would be to use search engine research tools like Google’s Keyword Tool. One should make up a list of all the different key phrases that would go optimally with their sites and then place some of them on each of its pages. Very generalized phrases like “education” or health” are no good, and will rarely contribute in increasing traffic to your pages.

    4.    Title tags should be marked with key phrases.

Title tags are given a lot of importance by different search engines when searching for a user query. Make sure that the title tags are incorporated with the key phrases that you want your site to be associated with. And bear in mind the important fact that the title tags are what the end user click on as “links” when they want to visit your web page, so also ensure that the content of the page is represented in the title tags.

    Search Engine Optimization

The SEO business has changed significantly over the years, people with little knowledge of search engines were successful in getting their web page published on Google, yahoo and the other on-line search engines. Now it is a completely different scenario where people have realized the advantages of optimization the industry has grown and more people have entered the business which has brought in massive competition and it is no longer easy to achieve the success same success rate as in prior years.

Unless you really know what is required to achieve these optimized levels it is impossible to succeed in the SEO biz. People in the business must understand that unless they are committed to their work and have been there for a few years they will be less likely to obtain the desired results. Most SEO’s have set goals to become one of the top 5 ranked websites on Google and yahoo, but their actual target should be to accomplish high traffic on their website where people are interested in what the website sells.

Accomplishing the fact that your website appears on a search engine, when users put in a particular word is just not it there is so much more to this SEO a website gains success only if the contents it provides is what people are looking for. So when working to optimized your website use-able content and achieving high traffic should be the concern where as ranking matters matters but as much as the other two factors mentioned above. Having a high ranking would obviously increase ones targeted traffic and sales.

Having capable SEO’s is just not it your site needs to stand out and offer more from what others are offering in the same field. This is so important for customer satisfaction and retention, web owners want people keep coming back they should want most hits as possible. What site owners do is make it all about money by pushing on rankings this will only give short term benefits but people in the business for a long term should understand that they have to maintain quality contents on their web site.

Now one must understand what good quality content actually is, one which is unique and creative that can be found solely on the particular page that quality that makes your web page stand out from the rest quality for which people come back and spread the word about how good the site actually is which bring in more hits. Being creative gets you ahead of the game it gives you a competitive edge. You should be the one people follow not the other way around. It should not be that one phrase that brings your ranking up it should be the thousands of phrases that are published on your web site.

We all know that quality matters a lot and you can make a lot more money from creative and original ideologies and ideas that are ones own and not copied of somewhere. You should know that if you have good quality content people will come on their own and than rankings wont matter.
